The year 2023 started on a rough note as we struggled to fund cohort VIII of Web3bridge. We considered postponing or canceling the cohort, but we decided to “match forward” because we resolved to ensure we keep grooming developers in good and bad times. Web3bridge also clocked 4years as a program on October 10th, 2023.
Not minding the tough start, we had too many positives and you should read it.
Cohorts
For cohorts IX and X of Web3bridge, we received nine hundred twenty-seven (927) applications for the cohort's web2 and Web3 track, from four (4) different African countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, and Nigeria. We also added a total of nine three developers into the ecosystem across cohorts VIII & IX, some of whom have received grants, won hackathons, and built on several protocols.
In 2023, our facility housed sixty-four (64) developers who traveled to Lagos from all geo-political zones in Nigeria.
Partnerships
The year 2023 was a good year, we had several partnership calls and we could not go through with all the partnerships, however, we made a good number of top partners in the year which included Starkware, AyaHQ, Base, Talent Protocol, and some community partners.
Masterclass
Partnering with Starware, we hosted a six (6) week Cairo masterclass, which births the growing Cairo developer ecosystem in Nigeria. The mentors and participants from the masterclass presently contribute to the Cairo ecosystem as a grantee building project, a tutor tutoring others to build on Cairo, contributors to Starknet documentation, and other contributions.
Media Reach
Our media reach increased tremendously in 2023 with a total of 5,993 newsletter subscribers with a 70% read/opening rate on our newsletters, 667,900 organic Twitter impressions with 7,712 followers, 54,095 organic LinkedIn impressions.
Grants & Gifts
It was a great year for us at Web3bridge as we got the Ethereum Foundation run a node grant, also we were a recipient of Impact gifts from teams at EF
Events
In 2023, Web3bridge participated in and jointly held several events with the community in Nigeria and across Africa, however, we hosted the second edition of the Web3 Lagos Conference with 2,332 registrations and 370, 495 & 1,582 attendance for day one, two, and three respectively. The event received registration from 23 states in Nigeria, 14 African countries, 3 European countries, the United States of America, United Kingdom, and 3 Asian countries.
